What does it mean to feel grounded?

When we are grounded we are more at peace with ourselves. We release our stress and anxiety, our overwhelm and busyness. We allow ourselves to relax. We connect to the earth's energies and feel stable, more at peace.

Think of it like this. We have electricity running through our homes and we earth (ground) it, so that we are protected if there is a leakage or surge in electricity.

Our body is made up of energy and so it makes sense that when we ground ourselves, we are stabilizing our energy. By grounding ourselves, we allow ourselves to let go of the erratic energy caused by stress and anxiety enabling us to connect into our present moment within ourselves.

How can I ground myself?

There are lots of ways you can ground yourself.

You can
  • Meditate or be silent and still
  • Walk barefoot on the grass or in the sand
  • Walk in nature
  • Hug a tree
  • Stop and smell the flowers
  • Lie on your back and watch the clouds float in the sky
  • Go for a walk
  • Listen to music that allows you to release your tension
  • Spend time doing something creative – paint, draw, doodle, cut and paste
  • Garden
  • Write from within – let the words flow from you without thought
  • Use Crystals
  • Turn your face to the sun and imagine the rays energising you
  • Spend time with animals
  • Spend time with someone who makes you feel at peace with yourself
  • Anything else that feels like you are aligning yourself with the earth’s energies.

Take a look at the list above and choose what interests you and feels right for you.

Add these things to your daily and weekly routines so that you can feel grounded on a regular basis. This will help you align your energy and feel better about yourself.

Here is something else you can try.

Click here to see how to create a little doodle painting of a tree that anyone can do. There is no right or wrong way, just some scribble and paint.

Allow yourself to relax as you do it. Draw like a child and release any self-judgement on the outcome. Allow yourself to simply enjoy playing.

Have a FABuLous day
